Dark Wolf

Just like yesterday’s poetic puzzle, ponder over what you think the answer is. The objective is to explore who/what the wolf symbolizes – if it even represents anything at all. It could simply be another creature, after all.
A wolf, as defined by Google, is “a wild carnivorous mammal of the dog family, living and hunting in packs. It is native to both Eurasia and North America, but has been widely exterminated.” The word is also “used in similes and metaphors to refer to a rapacious, ferocious, or voracious person or thing.”

it was a wonder i saw the dark wolf

without the light of day

but strangely it was midnight

when i saw that lone wolf

i thought to myself

should i run?

of course not

i would only die tired then

should i hide?

of course not

a predator can always find its prey

but what prey?

what predator?

perhaps it left its pack

should i speak?

and so i spoke

and i spoke and so i spoke

but the wolf stayed still and silent

it was only when

the day turned to light

that i finally saw

the shade on the snow

and no wolf at all
